After consultation with the Hong Kong Immigration Department and the Shenzhen Immigration Inspection General Station (Border Inspection General Station) and other mainland departments, it is estimated that about 5 million people will enter and exit Hong Kong through various land border control stations.
On April 27th, the cross-departmental working group led by the Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region announced the latest updates and arrangements for this year's Mainland Labour Day Golden Week. During this year's Mainland Labour Day Golden Week (from May 1st to 5th), the Hong Kong Immigration Department expects approximately 6 million people (including residents and visitors of Hong Kong) to enter and exit Hong Kong through various sea, land, and air control points. After consultations between the Hong Kong Immigration Department and the Shenzhen Immigration Checkpoint General Station and other Mainland departments, it is estimated that about 5 million people will enter and exit Hong Kong through various land border control points. The peak period for outbound traffic is expected to be on the 2nd (Saturday) with approximately 636,000 departures, while the peak period for inbound traffic is expected to be on the 3rd (Sunday) with approximately 688,000 arrivals. The Hong Kong Immigration Department estimates that the Luohu Control Point, Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point, and Shenzhen Bay Control Point will be very busy during the holiday period, with an average daily estimated flow of about 246,000, 227,000, and 172,000 people entering and exiting. To manage the passenger flow during the holiday period, the Hong Kong Immigration Department has reduced frontline staff leave, allowing for flexible deployment of personnel, opening additional inspection counters, temporary counters and passages to guide the flow of people and vehicles. At the same time, the Hong Kong Immigration Department will also increase security personnel to assist in maintaining order at the border crossings. On the other hand, the Hong Kong Immigration Department, together with the Hong Kong Police Force, Hong Kong Customs, and MTR Corporation (00066), will establish a joint command center at the Luohu Control Point to make appropriate deployments and take necessary measures. They will also closely coordinate with the Shenzhen Immigration Checkpoint General Station and other Mainland departments, closely monitor the flow of people and implement appropriate diversion measures when necessary to ensure smooth customs clearance.
