Compared to December 2024, Hong Kong's overall export volume and import volume have increased by 21.6% and 26.5% respectively in December 2025.
Following the earlier publication of the value statistics for foreign goods trade in December 2025, the Hong Kong government's Census and Statistics Department today (February 12) released the volume and price statistics for foreign goods trade in that month. Compared to December 2024, Hong Kong's overall export and import volumes increased by 21.6% and 26.5% respectively in December 2025. Compared to 2024 as a whole, Hong Kong's overall export and import volumes increased by 12.8% and 12.9% respectively in 2025. Seasonally adjusted figures show that in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the previous quarter, overall export and import volumes increased by 4.9% and 6.7% respectively. Changes in foreign goods trade volumes are calculated by excluding the impact of price changes from the value changes in foreign goods trade. Compared to December 2024, overall export prices and import prices increased by 3.7% and 3.4% respectively in December 2025. Compared to 2024 as a whole, overall export prices and import prices increased by 2.3% and 2.2% respectively in 2025. Price changes in foreign goods trade are reflected in changes in the unit price index for foreign goods trade. This index is calculated based on the actual prices of individual commodities or the average unit value. The Trade Price Index Ratio is calculated based on the ratio of the export price index and the import price index. Compared to the same period in 2024, this index increased by 0.3% in December 2025, while it remained roughly unchanged for the entire year of 2025. Compared to December 2024, overall export volumes to Taiwan Province of China (61.8%), the US (44.6%), Vietnam(26.5%) and Mainland China (19.8%) recorded increases. On the other hand, overall export volumes to India decreased by 9.9%. At the same time, overall export prices to all major destinations increased: Taiwan Province of China (6.6%), Mainland China (4.4%), India (3.5%), the US (1.3%), and Vietnam (1.2%). Compared to December 2024, import volumes from all major supply sources recorded increases: Vietnam (142.5%), Mainland China (31.7%), Taiwan Province of China (22.3%), Singapore (13.4%), and South Korea (7.3%). At the same time, import prices from all major supply sources increased: Taiwan Province of China (6.3%), South Korea (6.1%), Singapore (4.1%), Vietnam (3.1%), and Mainland China (2.2%).
