On February 12th, the Ministry of Commerce held its regular press conference.
On February 12, the Ministry of Commerce held a routine press conference. During the meeting, Ministry of Commerce spokesperson, He Yadong, answered questions regarding Canada's anti-dumping issue on rapeseed. He stated that during Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's visit to China in January, specific arrangements were made to properly address trade issues in the areas of electric vehicles, steel and aluminum products, rapeseed, and agricultural products. The Canadian side will make positive adjustments to the unilateral measures taken against Chinese electric vehicles and steel and aluminum products. China will also adjust its anti-discrimination measures against Canada in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. Regarding the anti-dumping measures on Canadian rapeseed, due to the complexity of the case, the investigation period has been extended until March 9, 2026, and the Ministry of Commerce will issue a final ruling announcement before that date. The Ministry of Commerce will fully consider Canadian reasonable demands within the framework of the rules and make an objective and fair final decision based on facts and evidence. On the approval of duty-free status for a Chinese SUV by the European Union, He Yadong stated that both China and the EU have reached consensus through multiple rounds of negotiations within the framework of the WTO, and the "soft landing" of the electric vehicle issue has been widely welcomed by the international community and the industry. Based on the consensus reached during the negotiations, both China and the EU support Chinese electric vehicle companies to make good use of price commitments. The EU has issued specific guidance documents after the negotiations and promised to conduct evaluations objectively and fairly in accordance with non-discrimination principles. The deep integration and mutually beneficial cooperation in the automotive industry between China and the EU are encouraged. The Ministry of Commerce continues to support dialogue and communication between China and the EU to create an open and stable market environment for the development of the automotive industry. This information was gathered from a press conference held by the Ministry of Commerce.
