Data from the Ministry of Transport shows that in August, a total of 54 cities in 31 provinces (autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps have opened and operated a total of 331 urban rail transit lines, covering a total operating distance of 11,210.7 kilometers. There were a total of 3.72 million train trips, serving 2.88 billion passengers and 1.71 billion passengers entering stations.
According to data from the Ministry of Transport, as of August 2025, 54 cities in 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps have a total of 331 urban rail transit lines in operation, with a total operating mileage of 11,210.7 kilometers. There were 3.72 million train runs, serving a total of 2.88 billion passengers, with 1.71 billion passengers entering the stations. In August, the passenger volume decreased by 40 million compared to the previous month, a decrease of 1.4%, but increased by 70 million compared to the same period last year, an increase of 2.6%. The average passenger intensity per kilometer per day for the total operating mileage in August was 0.831 million, a decrease of 1.7% compared to the previous month and a decrease of 4.9% compared to the same period last year.
Among them, 43 cities have 272 subway and light rail lines in operation, with a total operating mileage of 9,722 kilometers, serving 2.79 billion passengers, with 1.65 billion passengers entering the stations. 16 cities have 25 monorail, maglev, and urban rapid rail transit lines in operation, with a total operating mileage of 970.7 kilometers, serving 79.95 million passengers, with 53.60 million passengers entering the stations. 18 cities have 34 tram and automated guided rail lines in operation, with a total operating mileage of 518 kilometers, serving 10.25 million passengers, with 9.70 million passengers entering the stations.
In August, there were 63.9 kilometers of new operating mileage, one new operating line, the Ningbo Metro Line 7, and one new operating section, the northern section of the Nanjing Metro Line 5.
