On August 15th, the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission released the data on the main regulatory indicators of the banking and insurance industries for the second quarter of 2025. In the second quarter of 2025, the total assets of the banking and insurance industries continued to increase. By the end of the second quarter of 2025, the total assets of financial institutions in China's banking industry reached 46.73 trillion RMB, a year-on-year increase of 7.9%. Among them, the total assets of large commercial banks were 20.42 trillion RMB, a year-on-year increase of 10.4%, accounting for 43.7%; the total assets of joint-stock commercial banks were 7.57 trillion RMB, a year-on-year increase of 5%, accounting for 16.2%.
By the end of the second quarter of 2025, the total assets of insurance companies and insurance asset management companies were 3.92 trillion RMB, an increase of 330 billion RMB from the beginning of the year, a growth of 9.2%. Among them, property insurance companies had assets of 320 billion RMB, an increase of 9.5% from the beginning of the year; life insurance companies had assets of 3.43 trillion RMB, an increase of 8.8% from the beginning of the year; reinsurance companies had 860.7 billion RMB in assets, an increase of 4% from the beginning of the year; insurance asset management companies had 133.8 billion RMB in assets, an increase of 4.7% from the beginning of the year.
