Hong Kong Airport Authority: Expected to handle 1076 flight movements today, confident in handling stranded passengers.
Tony Yiu, Executive Director of Airport Operations of the Hong Kong Aviation Authority, stated that after the typhoon, Hong Kong International Airport has resumed normal operations today.
The Airport Operations Executive Director of the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Authority, Yao Zhaocong, stated that Hong Kong Airport has resumed normal operations today after the typhoon. He said that although there were many vehicles and passengers at the airport, the overall operation was very good, and the situation was quickly resolved. The Hong Kong Civil Aviation Authority estimates that they will handle 1076 flight movements today and are confident that they can manage all stranded passengers.
He expressed his gratitude to the airlines, the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department, and the Observatory for their cooperation in the past few days in preparing for the typhoon. Therefore, after the typhoon passed, Hong Kong Airport was able to resume operations immediately in a very short time. He also mentioned that the runways and operational capacity have essentially returned to normal levels, and they are still working on reassigning flights, expected to continue until tonight. He emphasized that some flights may only have one or two flights per week, so there may still be some stranded passengers, but the number is very small.
Yao Zhaocong also said that the challenge of responding to this typhoon was significant because the summer vacation had just begun, and many travelers were out traveling. In addition, this was the first signal number 10 in two years, causing interruptions in external transportation. He stressed that they have made efforts within their capacity to ensure that passengers can wait comfortably. According to records, the average waiting time for taxis during the typhoon yesterday was 30 minutes. He thanked the taxi industry for dispatching nearly 800 taxis to the airport to pick up passengers.
