Ministerial meeting of the steel industry planning department: propose studying the establishment of a new mechanism for capacity governance.

Adhere to strict control of incremental production and smooth exit, in accordance with the work policy of "strictly controlling increment, optimizing stock, merging and restructuring, and smoothly exiting", research and establish a new mechanism for capacity governance, prevent the continuous worsening of the risk of overcapacity in the steel industry, focus on eliminating "internal competition", and maintain a healthy and orderly environment for the survival and development of the steel industry.
On July 15th, the China Iron and Steel Industry Association organized the Steel Industry Planning Ministerial Meeting in Chengdu. Participants discussed the "Research on the Development Plan of the Iron and Steel Industry in the 15th Five-Year Plan," and provided suggestions for further improving the planning work. This includes adhering to strict control over capacity expansion and smooth exit, following the work guidelines of "strictly controlling capacity expansion, optimizing existing capacity, mergers and acquisitions, and smooth exit," studying the establishment of a new capacity governance mechanism, preventing the continuous aggravation of overcapacity risks in the steel industry, focusing on ending "zero-sum" competition, and maintaining a healthy and orderly environment for the survival and development of the steel industry. During the meeting, representatives focused on four core topics: capacity governance, green transformation, industry chain collaboration, and international layout in relation to the report on the "Research on the Development Plan of the Iron and Steel Industry in the 15th Five-Year Plan." Valuable opinions and suggestions were put forward for further improving the planning and formulation work. Some of the main aspects discussed were: 1. Adhering to strict control over capacity expansion and smooth exits. 2. Emphasizing data governance and policy coordination. 3. Orderly promotion of the development of short-process electric furnace steelmaking. 4. Accelerating the coordinated development of the steel structure construction industry chain. 5. Expanding the international development perspective. The meeting concluded with Vice President Xia Nong expressing the need for continued international collaboration and innovation in the steel industry to advance its development.
