Omdia predicts that the shipment of game console displays will exceed 15 million units in 2025, an increase of 200% compared to the previous year.
Omdia's research report on Industrial and Public Display and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) predicts that the global industrial display panel shipment will reach 281.1 million units in 2024, and is expected to grow by 3.4% to 290.6 million units in 2025. This growth is mainly attributed to the "Smart Home and Office" sector, which accounted for 64% of the total shipment this year. The key factor driving this growth is the recent launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, which features a 7.9-inch Low-Temperature Polysilicon (LTPS) gaming display screen. Omdia expects the shipment of gaming display screens to exceed 15 million units in 2025, with a year-on-year growth rate of 200%. TzuYu Huang, Omdia's Chief Analyst, stated, "Historically, the demand for the industrial display market has remained stable due to its segmented characteristics. However, in recent years, the uncertainty of tariffs has prompted participants in the TV, IT, and some industrial display supply chains to bring forward demand to the first half of 2025." Although this front-loading of demand may lead to soft or fluctuating demand in the third quarter, the successful launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year is helping to sustain strong growth momentum in the Smart Home and Office sector throughout 2025. In order to achieve the 2025 target for industrial display panel shipments, panel manufacturers are driving growth through innovation and emerging technologies. AUO Display Plus is focusing on indoor signage using electronic paper display (EPD) solutions, outdoor signage and traffic applications using Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Display (ChLCD), as well as open framework and integrated display solutions for retail signage, 2D/3D medical displays, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) devices, tablet PCs, Interactive Whiteboards (IWB), and slot machines. BOE has made breakthroughs in the diagnostic display field and has introduced AMOLED displays for industrial applications such as law enforcement recorders, 3.5-inch and 3.2-inch digital cameras. Additionally, BOE has developed RGBW technology for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and signage applications. Innolux is focusing on mini LED displays using direct-lit or local dimming backlight technologies. Its product lineup includes digital camera displays of 3.5 inches and 5 inches, drone displays of 7 inches and 11 inches, marine application displays of 17.3 inches and 23.8 inches, and in-flight entertainment displays of 13.3 inches and 17.3 inches. This year, Innolux continues to prioritize meeting the strong demand from key customers in the gaming console market. Tianma is expanding its production into the public display market through its TM19 8.6 Generation factory, with main target applications including 50-inch 4K signage displays, 27-inch signs, self-service terminals, slot machines, and digital converter market displays. Tianma also strategically focuses on the electric bike market, supplying displays of 4.2 inches, 5 inches, and 7 inches in specific regions. Additionally, Tianma has invested in mini LED backlight technology for large display panels (13.3 inches, 15.6 inches, 17.3 inches, 23.8 inches, and 27 inches), catering specifically to the marine and aviation industries. Truly focuses on small-sized AMOLED displays, including AMOLED screens below 1 inch for heat-not-burn tobacco products and AMOLED panels below 3 inches for law enforcement recorders and electric bicycles. TzuYu concluded, "Gaming consoles like the Nintendo Switch 2 will continue to drive growth in industrial display panel shipments throughout 2025. Meanwhile, panel manufacturers continue to focus on emerging technologies to explore new applications and market opportunities."
