British semiconductor IP company Alphawave announced on Monday that the UK Takeover Panel has once again extended the deadline for US chip manufacturer Qualcomm's acquisition offer to May 27th. It is reported that at the end of April, the UK Takeover Panel had extended Qualcomm's acquisition offer deadline to May 12th. Alphawave stated on Monday that the two parties are still in negotiations and have agreed to further extend the deadline for the acquisition offer. In early April, Qualcomm confirmed that it is considering acquiring Alphawave. It is reported that Alphawave has been attracting interest from companies like Qualcomm and Arm for its key technology "Serial/Parallel Deserializer" (SerDes) used to build artificial intelligence processors. SerDes technology is crucial for artificial intelligence applications, as systems like ChatGPT often require thousands of chips to work together seamlessly. Earlier reports suggested that Arm had sought to acquire Alphawave. However, in early April, sources revealed that after initial discussions with Alphawave, Arm had decided not to pursue the acquisition further.
