AI Boom: The $10 Trillion Spending Wave Is Amplifying Financial Risks
Former New York Fed President Bill Dudley warned that AI infrastructure investment could exceed $10 trillion, potentially creating massive overcapacity. Dudley estimates that of the current seven to eight companies aiming to become AI hyperscalers, ultimately only two to three may come to dominate the market. AI infrastructure may require more than $3 trillion in annual revenue to cover its investment costs. Opaque private credit financing, off-balance-sheet debt, and Nvidia's chip value guarantees further add to the risks.
