Spain offers 30 million euros in aid to victims of high-speed train accident
Spanish Minister of Transport scar Puente announced on the 3rd that the government will provide 30 million euros in aid to the deceased and injured and their families from the high-speed train accident that occurred in the Castilla-La Mancha autonomous region on October 28, and will take measures to strengthen railway safety. Puente also announced that, in response to this accident, the government will double the amount of mandatory passenger insurance compensation and pay the compensation in advance. Puente said the government will take a series of measures to strengthen high-speed railway operation management, including reducing the number of high-speed train services between Madrid and Seville until the new safety system is put into use. A cross-verification system will be introduced into railway dispatch management; when train routes are congested and the automatic control system is absent, every decision by the control center will be monitored and reviewed and verified by another dispatcher. Puente said that the Spanish railway infrastructure management agency will improve working conditions for dispatchers, increase the number of employees at the control center, and install new software for the control center so that dispatchers can have a clearer understanding of train positions and track conditions.
