At the 2026 Global Panda Partners Conference held in Chengdu, Sichuan, it was learned that as of now, China's captive giant panda population has reached 830, with the population's genetic diversity continuing to improve. In recent years, through the construction of ecological corridors, 13 local giant panda populations have returned to the larger family, habitat connectivity has significantly improved, and more than 150 instances of activity by giant pandas and other species have been monitored in corridor areas. Giant pandas "visiting neighbors" and "going on blind dates" have become the norm. The giant panda is a flagship species unique to China and also a star species in global biodiversity conservation. According to statistics, the total number of visitors who have viewed giant pandas worldwide has exceeded 1 billion person-times.
