Reducing Dependence on the U.S.: Canada Pushes "Middle Power Diplomacy"
Canadian Foreign Minister Anand said on October 31 that Canada is pursuing "middle power diplomacy," seeking to strengthen trade and security ties with multiple partners other than the United States in order to reduce single reliance on external forces, and striving to double Canada's trade volume with non-U.S. markets within 10 years. Anand made the remarks while attending the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Atlanta, the United States, that day. In an interview with Reuters, she said the meeting demonstrated the "deformed and fractured nature" of the current international order and highlighted the international community's need for "new blocs, new alliances and new partnerships."
