The 2026 World Cities Day Global Home Event and the Award Ceremony of the Fourth Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities were held on the 31st in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. He Lifeng, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the opening ceremony, presented awards to the winning cities and delivered a speech. He Lifeng noted that since the new era began, the Chinese government, following the important instructions of President Xi Jinping, has fully practiced the concept of people's cities and pushed urban development to historic achievements. The whole population has basically achieved adequate housing, urban residents enjoy high-quality and full employment, harmony has been maintained between individuals and between humanity and nature, historical and cultural heritage has been effectively protected, and urban governance effectiveness has been continuously enhanced. At present and for a period to come, we will, in accordance with the arrangements of the Central Urban Work Conference, aim to build modern people's cities that are innovative, livable, beautiful, resilient, civilized and smart, and blaze a new path of urban modernization with Chinese characteristics. China is ready to work with all parties to advance the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda, so that the fruits of urban development will better benefit people of all countries and truly realize "Better City, Better Life." Before the opening ceremony, He Lifeng met with UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacludia Rossbach. He Lifeng said that China is willing to expand strategic collaboration with UN-Habitat, practice the global governance concept of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, and help Global South countries achieve sustainable urban development. Rossbach said that UN-Habitat is willing to continue deepening pragmatic cooperation with China and jointly contribute to improving the global human settlements environment.
