Binance issues an announcement regarding a security incident.
Binance's preliminary investigation indicates that this security incident may have involved the compromise of a DevOps engineer's laptop, which enabled the attacker to access a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any wallet private key leakage. Once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified, we will share a detailed technical post-mortem report. The estimated total impact is approximately 6.3 billion USD. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze the affected assets, and approximately 3 billion USD in on-chain assets have been frozen so far. Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and corporate funds. User funds are safe. Once remediation is complete, we will also publish an updated proof of reserves. As immediate precautionary measures, Binance has: - Temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals pending completion of security checks; - Revoked authorizations for the affected addresses; - Contacted law enforcement agencies and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover the funds. Our team is working day and night to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. We are working closely with law enforcement partners to identify these criminals and bring them to justice.
