The University of Science and Technology of China has announced that a research team, through stepwise surface synthesis, has fabricated a metallic carbon nanoribbon composed solely of five-membered and seven-membered rings, namely a new "pentagon-heptagon ring-type" carbon nanoribbon, and confirmed that this sub-nanometer-wide one-dimensional structure, formed by carbon atoms connected via covalent bonds, can achieve efficient electron transport. The related findings were published online on the 29th in the international academic journal Nature.
