European Commission proposes to strengthen the EU's climate risk response capacity
The European Commission released the EU Climate Resilience Framework on the 27th, aimed at strengthening the EU's ability to anticipate, respond to, and manage climate risks. In an announcement issued that day, the Commission said that Europe experienced sustained heatwaves and drought conditions this summer. In recent years, Europe has also repeatedly suffered severe floods, and the impact of climate change on people, businesses, and infrastructure has become increasingly prominent. According to estimates, between 2022 and 2025, economic losses caused by climate disasters amounted to approximately 200 billion euros. The EU Climate Resilience Framework proposes strengthening climate risk anticipation and response, integrating climate resilience into major EU policy areas, and providing support to local and regional governments for climate change adaptation. The Commission estimates that Europe needs approximately 70 billion euros in investment annually to adapt its infrastructure and economy to future climate conditions.
