Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSM.N) has suspended some construction work at its Kaohsiung plant site after an accident that killed four workers. TSMC said in a statement that the accident occurred on Tuesday while workers were carrying out steel structure construction at the site. According to local media reports, the workers fell from height while welding steel beams. TSMC said it has suspended construction work at the Kaohsiung site and halted similar steel structure construction at its plants across Taiwan, while cooperating with the investigation into the cause of the accident. This is the most serious accident at TSMC's Kaohsiung site since construction began. The fatal accident comes as TSMC is working to expand capacity to meet growing demand for advanced chips in the field of artificial intelligence.
