RBC Chief Executive Officer considers restricting Meta's Muse access to customer information
Royal Bank of Canada Chief Executive Dave McKay said on Tuesday that the bank is considering restricting Meta's AI agent Muse from accessing customer information, but no final decision has been made. McKay said banks need to strike a balance between meeting consumer demand and maintaining system privacy and security, stressing that "we must protect customers, and institutions must bear responsibility for this as well." He specifically noted that transactions conducted by external AI agents are difficult for banks to effectively monitor, and that data being scraped "without consent or with consent obtained through fraudulent means" is another hidden risk. Previously, JPMorgan Chase, Charles Schwab, Bank of America, and Citi have successively restricted or blocked external AI agents from directly logging into accounts, transferring funds, or paying bills, retaining only authorized read-only data access.
