Brazilian government: approximately US$4 billion in budget restructuring needed to support Lula's 2027 policy initiatives
The Ministry of Planning and Budget said on Monday that to implement the various policy initiatives recently announced by President Luiz Incio Lula da Silva, the 2027 budget will require a budget restructuring of approximately 20 billion reais. Lula is seeking re-election in next Sunday's presidential election. The ministry said in a statement that this amount accounts for just over 1% of the total recurring expenditures subject to the spending cap under Brazil's fiscal framework, adding that the adjustments will be made while maintaining the overall spending cap and the government's primary budget target.
