Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi strongly denied that she should be held responsible for the weak yen and high interest rates. She said in parliament on Monday: "There have been many criticisms directed at me, such as 'Takaichi yen depreciation' and 'Takaichi high interest rates.' I categorically deny these views." Takaichi said her government's goal is to build a strong economy and achieve fiscal sustainability, thereby boosting market confidence in the yen, and stated that it will reasonably manage the scale of Japanese government bond issuance in the next fiscal year's budget. The prime minister's remarks came as her cabinet, which has been in office for one year, seeks to ease persistent market concerns about fiscal management. Earlier this year, the annual economic policy draft triggered market worries that the government was shifting toward a more expansionary policy stance, pushing the yen lower against the dollar and long-term government bond yields higher.
