Zelensky says he will run for re-election if Ukraine is "required" to hold wartime elections.
Ukrainian President Zelensky said in a media interview on the 18th that if the United States and Russia demand that Ukraine hold elections during the war, he will run for re-election as president. In an interview with ABC News that day, Zelensky said that whether to hold a presidential election must first of all follow the choice of the Ukrainian people. If the United States and Russia insist on requiring Ukraine to hold elections during the war, then Ukraine will also need a ceasefire of at least 60 days. During the ceasefire, Ukraine will do its utmost to amend the law and prepare the necessary security infrastructure. Zelensky also stated that it is necessary to ensure that Ukrainian military personnel "can and must" participate in the elections.
