Qualcomm's Frank Meng: On-device AI is playing an important role, and the development of agents further accelerates this trend.
The 2026 Northeast Asia Talent Exchange Conference and AI-Empowered Industrial Development Conference opened in Shenyang. Meng Pu, Chairman of Qualcomm China, attended the conference and delivered a keynote speech titled "AI Empowering Industrial Development, Co-Creating a New Future of Intelligent Connectivity," sharing Qualcomm's reflections on how AI can truly enter industries and be transformed into real productivity.
In recent years, the rapid development of various generative AI technologies has brought people new experiences. Meng Pu believes that in the future, AI development will increasingly move toward cloud-edge collaboration. The cloud possesses powerful models and computing power and can handle complex, resource-intensive tasks. Terminals have unique advantages in real-time response, reliability, and personalized experiences. A large number of AI tasks are expanding to various terminals and edge devices such as smartphones, PCs, automobiles, robots, and industrial equipment, and on-device AI is playing an increasingly important role.
Meng Pu further pointed out that the development of agentic AI is further accelerating this trend. In the past, people needed to learn how to operate devices and use different application software. In the future, AI can further understand people's intentions and the scenarios they are in, and proactively invoke different application services and devices to jointly complete tasks. This means that people are gradually moving from an application-centric computing experience to a new stage centered on intelligent agents, entering an era of ubiquitous intelligent computing.
Meng Pu pointed out that in the AI era, industry cooperation will become even more important. From terminals to automobiles, to manufacturing, developers, universities, and research institutions, only by truly connecting talent, technology, and industry can AI better move from technological innovation to industrial innovation and ultimately create greater social value.
Qualcomm has been developing in China for more than 30 years and has experienced the development of the 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile communications industries and the mobile internet together with Chinese partners. Meng Pu stated that the advantages of the Chinese market lie not only in market size but also in a complete industrial system, rich application scenarios, a vibrant innovation ecosystem, and a large number of outstanding engineering and technical talents. The combination of these advantages provides excellent conditions for new technologies from technical validation and product development to large-scale application. Especially as AI accelerates its entry into different industries and sectors today, China is not only an important market but is also becoming a globally important force driving the accelerated deployment and large-scale application of new technologies.
Looking ahead, Meng Pu stated that Qualcomm looks forward to continuing to leverage its strengths in computing and AI, working hand in hand with Shenyang, Liaoning, and more Chinese partners to bring AI to more terminals, enter more scenarios, and deeply integrate with more industries, so that technological innovation can truly be transformed into momentum for industrial development and AI and connectivity can empower the high-quality development of all industries.
