Affected by a strong El Nio event, several South American countries have recently experienced sustained heavy rainfall, causing the water levels of the Paran River, Uruguay River, and Iguazu River to keep rising. This has led to flooding in northeastern Argentina, southern Paraguay, and western Uruguay, leaving thousands of people homeless. Among them, Paraguay has been relatively severely affected. In the city of Ayolas, which borders Argentina, more than 2,000 people have been evacuated. Local officials said the water level of the Paran River has reached its highest level in more than 40 years and may continue to rise. Brazil's meteorological department forecasts that rainfall in southern Brazil will remain above normal for some time to come, and the water levels of the Paran River, Uruguay River, and Iguazu River may remain high.
