Citigroup and Bank of America restrict AI agents from accessing accounts to prevent deposits from being automatically transferred out.
Citigroup and Bank of America have become the latest U.S. banks to restrict AI agents from accessing customer accounts. Major banks have expressed concerns to regulators that AI agents could transfer idle funds in pursuit of higher yields, causing deposit outflows. Citigroup said it does not allow "third-party AI agents or assistants to log into customer accounts or directly initiate transactions within our digital banking platforms," stating that the move is aimed at protecting customer account and information security.
