Nvidia (NVDA.O) CEO Jensen Huang said in Paris on Tuesday that the company plans to announce an additional $2 billion investment in Europe within the next week. Combined with the $8 billion already invested in Europe over the past year, Nvidia will further expand its local footprint. Huang's European trip will also take him to London and Berlin. Huang also announced a new round of funding for four French startups: medical technology company Doctolib, robotics company Genesis AI, business software company Pigment, and Entalpic, which uses artificial intelligence for chemistry and materials research. Amid growing concerns in European society over AI safety risks and data center energy consumption, Huang opposed slowing down AI development, arguing that artificial intelligence can drive economic growth and can be developed safely. He also emphasized that open-source models can help Europe narrow the AI technology gap with the United States, noting that open-source models can be customized according to different languages and independent technological needs. Huang said Europe needs to accelerate its participation in the artificial intelligence race.
