Driven by SpaceX's record-breaking initial public offering, defense spending, and space infrastructure construction, global investment in the space economy is expected to exceed $100 billion for the first time in 2026. This forecast comes from the latest analysis of third-quarter investment conditions by investment firm Space Capital. The report not only tallies the massive investment in the space sector but also points out that the number of space companies reaching unicorn valuations has hit a historic high. Space Capital CEO Chad Anderson said, "We all thought the market in 2021 was already exceptionally hot." He was referring to the frenzy of special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) deals at the time. "But compared with the current situation, that was merely a minor episode." To explain this surge in investment, almost all clues point to SpaceX. Anderson said SpaceX's record-breaking IPO this summer may have prompted investors to reassess the value of other space companies, believing these companies are more important than previously thought.
