Oil prices fall after Trump says Russia and Ukraine agree to energy ceasefire
Oil prices fell as traders weighed US President Donald Trump's claim of an "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine, despite escalating hostilities in the Middle East. Brent crude futures dropped below $104 a barrel, ending a two-day rally, while WTI crude returned below $91 a barrel. Trump posted on social media that the energy ceasefire took effect immediately. He made a similar claim last month, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said no final agreement had been reached. Oil prices fell even as Saudi Arabia's main airport came under attack again and another tanker was targeted near the Strait of Hormuz. King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital was attacked again by Houthi forces on Sunday, a day after an assault on the airport killed 12 people. Brent crude futures for December settlement fell 1.4% to $103.29 a barrel. WTI crude futures for November delivery fell 1.5% to $90.49 a barrel.
