Shanghai Shipping Exchange: Negotiations remain subdued before and after the long holiday, and the composite index has fallen for consecutive periods.
According to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange, this week, around the National Day holiday, thermal coal is in the off-season. As summer heat fades in the south and temperatures drop, daily coal consumption at power plants remains low, and inventories are generally ample. In addition, coal inbound volumes at northern ports are relatively low, downstream buyers are not strongly willing to accept high-priced coal, and enthusiasm for restocking is weak, with only a small amount of rigid-demand procurement. The market bargaining atmosphere is sluggish, and the coastal bulk composite index edged down. On September 30, the China Coastal Composite Freight Index published by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange closed at 1,085.02 points, down 2.6% from the previous period. On October 9, the China Coastal Composite Freight Index published by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange closed at 1,069.35 points, down 1.4% from the previous period.
