Thailand's September inflation accelerated for a second consecutive month, gradually approaching the upper limit of the central bank's target range; severe flooding has further increased the risk of higher food prices. Data released by Thailand's Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday showed that the consumer price index rose 2.82% year-on-year in September, higher than 2.53% in August. However, the reading was still below the median forecast of 3.1% from economists surveyed by the media. Despite the rebound in inflation, it remains within the Bank of Thailand's target range of 1%3%. After a period in which price pressures had remained persistently subdued, this round of increases has brought inflation closer to the upper limit of the range.
