US investigates March attack on Kuwait base; US Army major says warnings were ignored.
On the morning of March 1 this year, the day after the United States and Israel launched large-scale airstrikes on Iran, Iran fired drones in a retaliatory operation, striking a U.S. military base at Shuaiba Port in southern Kuwait, killing six U.S. troops and wounding dozens more. Recently, dozens of U.S. military personnel who lived through that military strike were interviewed. According to U.S. military officers among them, assessment reports before the attack had already shown that the U.S. facilitya rectangular building with wooden wallswas "highly vulnerable to drone attacks," but the warning was ignored. Moreover, the base's defensive measures at the time simply could not stop a drone attack. Other U.S. military officers interviewed also said that after the strike the scene was in complete chaos, and that some of the wounded were able to get to a hospital in time for treatment entirely because "some people's cellphones still worked and they could use Google to find nearby hospitals." Reports say the U.S. military completed its investigation into the attack on the Shuaiba Port base as early as June this year, but has still not released the relevant report, citing the need to "redact sensitive information." The U.S. military also declined to comment on this latest development.
