U.S. military says after being attacked by Iran, it relied on Google to find a hospital.
On the morning of March 1 this year, the day after the United States and Israel launched large-scale airstrikes on Iran, Iran fired drones in a retaliatory operation, striking a U.S. military base at Shuaiba Port in southern Kuwait, killing six U.S. service members and wounding dozens more. The Associated Press recently interviewed dozens of U.S. military personnel who experienced that military strike. According to U.S. military officers among them, assessment reports before the attack had already shown that the U.S. facilitya rectangular building with wooden wallswas "highly vulnerable to drone attacks," but the warning was ignored. Moreover, the base's defensive measures at the time simply could not stop a drone attack. U.S. military officers interviewed also said that after the attack the scene was chaotic, and that some of the wounded were able to get to a hospital in time for treatment entirely because "some people's phones still worked and they could still use Google to find nearby hospitals." There are reports that the U.S. military completed its investigation into the attack on the Shuaiba Port base as early as June this year, but has not released a related report, citing the need to "redact sensitive information." The U.S. military also declined to comment on the Associated Press's latest report.
