Russia says Ukrainian troops attacked the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and a thermal power plant; no nuclear safety threat for now.
On October 5 local time, Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom, reported that in the early hours of that day, Ukrainian armed forces attacked two facilities at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, one of which is used for processing radioactive waste. Currently, there is no nuclear safety threat. Likhachev also stated that over the past two weeks, Ukrainian forces have systematically attacked the Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant adjacent to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Whether the relevant equipment in the thermal power plant operates normally is directly related to the safety of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Under these circumstances, the staff of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant continue to ensure the safety of the plant's facilities. He stated that the Ukrainian attacks have completely destroyed about 70 infrastructure facilities in the city of Enerhodar, and about 50 infrastructure facilities have been damaged. In addition, a vehicle transporting food to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was recently attacked by the Ukrainian side, resulting in the death of the driver. Currently, the Ukrainian side has no response to this.
