Large numbers of baby whales die on Argentina's Valdes Peninsula, possibly due to bacterial infection.
Recently, on the Valdes Peninsula in southern Argentina, a large number of dead whale calves washed ashore. It is reported that local residents say hundreds of southern right whale calves have died in recent months, but researchers have not yet released the total number of deaths. Researchers say the number of calf deaths recorded in 2026 is unusually high. Based on existing evidence, it is speculated that these calves may have been pecked and injured by birds, allowing bacteria to enter their bodies through the wounds and causing infections that led to death. Researchers have currently collected samples for further confirmation.
