ING says India's outsourcing industry is showing little sign of being displaced by AI as the country climbs into harder-to-automate services and moves up the value chain. Software services exports have risen to about 5.2% of GDP from 3.3% before the pandemic, economist Deepali Bhargava wrote. Business services including finance, accounting, engineering, research and analytics have more than doubled to 3.3% of GDP over the same period. The performance challenges concerns that generative AI could erode one of India's most important industries by automating traditional outsourcing work. India accounts for more than half of the global outsourcing industry, earning about $205 billion a year from software services exports and supporting some 5.8 million workers, according to ING. Software and business services exports together equal about 8.5% of GDP and are a key source of foreign exchange.
