According to The Information, Apple (AAPL.O) is planning to develop an enterprise-grade server powered by its own chips, which may integrate Nvidia's (NVDA.O) networking equipment to address growing demand for Apple computers in the field of artificial intelligence. People familiar with the matter said Apple has been developing this server and plans to sell it to AI developers, other enterprises, and government agencies. The product under consideration will come in two versionsa smaller version consisting of a cluster of two of Apple's planned M8 Ultra chips, and a larger version equipped with four M8 Ultra chips. The M-series Ultra chips are Apple's highest-performance chips, powering multiple products including the Mac Studio. The people familiar with the matter also revealed that Apple has considered using a set of Nvidia products called "NVLink Fusion" to connect the M8 chips in the servers. This kit includes switches, chiplets, and software that help chips communicate with one another within data centers. Any such move would further advance the initial thawing of the long-frozen relationship between the two tech giants.
