The International Atomic Energy Agency has raised its global nuclear power growth forecast for the sixth consecutive year.

On September 14 local time, the International Atomic Energy Agency released its latest forecast during the 70th General Conference held in Vienna, saying that global nuclear power installed capacity could reach as high as 1,284 gigawatts by 2060, about 3.4 times that of 2025. The IAEA said this is the sixth consecutive year that the agency has raised its global nuclear power growth forecast. Under the high-growth scenario, global nuclear power installed capacity will reach 1,045 gigawatts by 2050. Even under the low-growth scenario, it will reach 696 gigawatts by 2060, nearly double that of 2025. IAEA Director General Grossi said that as global electricity demand continues to grow, the importance of nuclear energy is rising. The agency expects that small modular reactors will play a greater role in future nuclear power expansion.
