King Charles III will meet with executives from major artificial intelligence companies in Scotland this week, amid growing concerns that unconstrained rapid development of AI technology could trigger a global catastrophe. Buckingham Palace said in a statement that the King will convene heads of companies including Nvidia, Google, DeepMind, OpenAI and Anthropic, as well as government officials, to "explore how AI can be developed and deployed in a way that benefits society." The meeting comes as AI industry insiders and chief executives of leading companies have increasingly warned about AI tools and their rapid development. Some have called for unified guidelines and a deliberate slowing of the pace to ensure humanity can keep up with technological advances. Buckingham Palace did not specify which representatives from the listed AI companies will attend. Anthropic, DeepMind, Google and Nvidia did not immediately respond to interview requests and could not confirm whether they would send representatives. OpenAI said its chief financial officer, Sarah Friar, will attend the meeting.
