2026 is the inaugural year of the explosive industrialization phase for China's commercial space sector, and launch capacity has become the ticket to entry for the trillion-dollar space economy.
On September 13, the 2026 Pujiang Innovation Forum Commercial Space Special Forum was held in Shanghai. Shang Lin, General Manager of the System Engineering Department of Shanghai Yuanxin Satellite Technology Co., Ltd., stated that China's commercial space industry is currently in a window period characterized by a gap between constellation deployment pace and launch capacity. Launch capacity remains the main shortcoming in commercialization development, and whoever is first to complete a closed loop of reusable launch, large-scale constellation deployment, and integrated operations will be able to seize the initiative in the trillion-yuan space economy. Global space launches have increased significantly. In the first half of 2026, a total of 154 space launches were completed worldwide, sending 2,330 satellites into their designated orbits. Among them, China completed 44 launches, up 25.7% from the same period in 2025. Commercial space has become a major component of the world's space industry. In the first half of the year, China completed 30 commercial launches, accounting for 68.2% of all launch missions. During the same period, among the satellites that entered orbit, commercial satellites reached 206, accounting for about 92.4% of all satellites placed in orbit.
