Food prices in Russia have fallen due to the shutdown of ports.
According to Russia's Kommersant, citing agricultural consulting firm SovEcon, domestic grain prices in Russia have fallen to their lowest levels since May 2024 due to the suspension of operations at all three grain terminals in Novorossiysk. During the week of August 10-16, third-grade wheat fell by 2.8% week-on-week to 11,500 rubles per ton; fourth-grade wheat fell by 3.1% week-on-week to 11,000 rubles per ton. SovEcon data shows that the price of fourth-grade wheat has decreased by 24% year-on-year. Andrey Sizov, head of SovEcon, believes that last week's drop in grain prices was a reaction from the market to the closure of the Novorossiysk terminals and weakening exports.
