Reports indicate that Samsung plans to change the intended use of the production line at its new semiconductor factory originally set for DRAM production.
According to reports, Samsung Electronics is advancing a plan to use the NRD-K 2 production line, currently under construction in Giheung, as an OEM production line, rather than utilizing its existing R&D facilities for contract manufacturing. It is understood that Samsung had initially discussed investing in a DRAM mass production line, but has recently proposed converting this production line for contract wafer manufacturing. The main mass production target is 2nm substrates for the next generation of HBM, and this strategy is interpreted as a means to secure related capacity in advance, in response to Nvidia's demand for HBM.
