The number of jobs in the German automotive industry has fallen to its lowest level in 21 years.

On the 14th, the Federal Statistical Office of Germany released data indicating a continuous decrease in employment numbers within the German automotive industry, which has fallen to its lowest level since 2005 in the first half of this year. As of the first half of this year, there are approximately 691,500 employees in Germany's automotive industry, a decrease of 42,300 from a year ago, representing a decline of 5.8%. According to DPA, the automotive industry is the sector with the fastest decrease in employment among all German industrial sectors. In the automotive sector, parts and accessories suppliers have made the most layoffs, with employment numbers dropping by 7.6% year-on-year; automotive manufacturers saw a decrease of 6.1% in employment. Other industrial sectors in Germany also experienced a reduction in employment, but the declines were relatively small. During the same period, overall employment in German manufacturing decreased by 2.7% year-on-year, totaling 5.29 million.
