Fudan team prepares single-copper-oxide layer high-temperature superconductor for the first time.

According to news from Fudan University, high-temperature superconductivity is an important direction for the development of efficient power transmission and high-performance electronic devices, but its microscopic mechanism has always been the "crown mystery" of condensed matter physics. On the evening of August 12, Beijing time, Professor Zhang Yuanbo's team from the Department of Physics at Fudan University, along with their collaborators, published their research findings in Nature under the title Superconducting 2D cuprate with a single CuO plane. They successfully thinned copper-based high-temperature superconductors to contain only one superconducting planenamely, a single CuO plane. This "extreme operation" not only confirmed the two-dimensional nature of high-temperature superconductivity but also discovered an unusual "bad metallic state" and quantum critical phenomena at the critical point of the superconductor-insulator transition, providing a novel quantum experimental platform for studying the mechanisms of high-temperature superconductivity.
