Data released on Thursday by the consulting firm Benchmark Mineral Intelligence shows that driven by strong growth in the European market, global electric vehicle demand rose for the fifth consecutive month in July, although sales weakened in markets like North America. In July, the sales of pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles increased by 9% year-on-year to 1.85 million units, bringing the total sales for the year to 11.5 million units. This data highlights the widening divergence trend among major electric vehicle markets. Demand in Europe is supported by subsidy policies, while the U.S. market has been impacted by the cancellation of federal electric vehicle tax credit policies. In July, sales in Europe soared by 33% to 450,000 units, pushing the year-to-date increase to 28%. BMI stated, The major automotive markets in Europe maintain a high growth trend, with many markets reintroducing electric vehicle subsidy programs over the past 18 months. In July, electric vehicle sales in France, Germany, and the UK grew by 81%, 46%, and 43%, respectively. Affected by the end of the U.S. electric vehicle tax credit policy, sales in North America declined by 27% to 140,000 units.
