Eli Lilly is intensifying its efforts to combat the burgeoning black market for tirzepatide, a key product in the companys expansion of its core weight loss business. For nearly two years, Lilly has cautioned consumers against using counterfeit versions of the injectable drug sold online, at wellness clinics, and in medical aesthetic institutions. Currently, the drug has not received approval from any regulatory agency worldwide. Now, Lilly is ramping up its pressure. The pharmaceutical company announced on Wednesday that it plans to sue businesses in the United States that illegally sell tirzepatide-related products, while also urging regulatory bodies to take more action to curb the illegal market.
