The number of deaths from the current Ebola outbreak in Congo has exceeded 2,000.

The data released by the Congolese Ministry of Health on the 11th indicates that the cumulative number of deaths from the current Ebola outbreak in the country has exceeded 2,000. As of the 9th, Congo has reported a total of 4,381 confirmed cases of Ebola, with 2,011 deaths and 869 recoveries. Julian Haines, the UN Ebola Coordinator, stated on social media on the 11th that nearly half of the deaths occurred in the past 20 days. He called on all parties involved in the response to the outbreak to take more immediate action to save lives and curb the further spread of the epidemic. The current outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, for which there is currently no vaccine or specific treatment. Clinical trials for candidate vaccines and therapeutic drugs are underway. This outbreak marks the 17th Ebola outbreak in Congo since 1976. The World Health Organization has stated that this outbreak has become the largest Ebola outbreak on record in Congo.
