The new president of Colombia has announced plans to strengthen efforts against drug-related crime.

On the 7th, Colombia's newly appointed President Gustavo Petro delivered a speech at the presidential inauguration ceremony held in Cali, a city in the southwest of the country, announcing that the government will soon unveil a list of drug trafficking terrorist organizations and intensify efforts to combat drug-related crimes. Petro stated that the new government will prioritize the restoration of national security and authority, urging the armed forces and police to crack down on all criminal gangs and to combat drug-related crimes through measures such as eradicating illegal crops. He also indicated that the new government will strengthen anti-corruption efforts, promote economic growth, and improve conditions in healthcare, education, and rural development. Colombia will enhance its cooperation with other countries in combating transnational organized crime, intelligence, security, and justice.
