According to foreign media reports, Indonesia has postponed its plan to impose a 0.5% income tax on local sellers on e-commerce platforms, citing concerns over economic growth and consumer purchasing power. The Indonesian tax authority announced on Wednesday evening that the country's e-commerce platforms would begin collecting income tax on behalf of platform sellers starting November 1. The Indonesian Finance Minister stated that the policy, which was originally set to take effect on August 1, will be implemented after improvements in economic conditions. Under the plan, designated e-commerce platforms will collect income tax pursuant to Article 22 of the Income Tax Law at a rate of 0.5% of the total revenue of the sellers, excluding value-added tax. Previously, Tokopedia, Shopee, Lazada, and Blibli have been designated as tax collection platforms.
