Meta Platforms (META.O) has launched its first programming agent, Muse Code, attempting to challenge Anthropic and OpenAI. Muse Code is the latest significant release following the appointment of Alexandr Wang as Meta's head of artificial intelligence. He leads the Meta Superintelligent Lab (MSL), responsible for foundational model development. Muse Code aims to make it easier for users to develop applications within a single user interface while managing AI-driven agents. This programming agent is currently available in beta or preview form and can work in conjunction with Meta's latest AI model, Muse Spark 1.2. Developers can use Muse Code through a pay-as-you-go model, which features API pricing similar to Muse Spark 1.1, at $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens.

Fed Governor Cook reiterated her position: if inflation does not slow down, she is prepared to raise interest rates and warned that policymakers may not have the luxury of waiting for inflation to return to the 2% target. Although Cook supported the Fed's decision to maintain interest rates at its July policy meeting, she cautioned that the longer inflation remains above the Fed's target, the harder it will be to contain it. During a speech at an event in Alaska, she stated, "If I do not see signs of sustained inflation decline soon, I am ready to take action. With inflation having been above the target for five consecutive years, the risk that inflation becomes entrenched in pricing and wage-setting behavior is rising, leading to persistent inflation that will be harder for us to address." However, Cook noted that the diminishing impacts of tariffs, the potential decline in oil prices, and the easing pressures related to the AI boom could cushion inflation, possibly eliminating the need for tightening policies. She emphasized that her top priority remains bringing inflation back to the Fed's target level.
