Apple has begun preparations for the September launch event, allowing retail employees to enter a lottery for on-site work.

According to well-known technology journalist Mark Gurman, as Apple (AAPL.O) approaches its largest product launch event of the year, the company is opening a lottery for U.S. retail employees who wish to participate in the in-person event. An internal memo indicates that this lottery allows retail staff to apply to work onsite, where employees will assist with organizing lines, registering guests, welcoming attendees, providing guidance, and supporting the security team. The company has informed employees that this launch event will take place in the first half of September but did not provide a more specific date. Historically, Apple's iPhone launch events are usually scheduled for the second Tuesday or Wednesday of the month. Since Labor Day in the U.S. falls on Monday, September 7, the likelihood of holding the event on Wednesday is slightly higher. This September's event will be the first major product launch led by CEO John Ternus, who will take over as Apple's CEO from Tim Cook starting September 1.
